Bill Shapiro managed the government and regulatory affairs program at Volvo Cars North America for over twenty five years. He has a deep insight into the workings of various governmental agencies and how they affect future corporate actions and capital allocations. During his career at Volvo, he was the primary interface with the U.S. EPA, NHTSA, CARB, Transport Canada and Environment Canada. He was responsible for overseeing the development and implementation of the TREAD Reporting System and managed the CAP2000 EPA/CARB emission reporting system which included 40-45 full scale emissions test per year. He was also actively involved in analyzing future regulations and their effect on Volvo's product development, coordinating environmental and safety defect investigations and recall campaigns, and interfacing with senior management on all matters involving compliance.
Bill holds an MBA and a B.S. and M.S. in Chemical Engineering and is a licensed Professional Engineer in the States of New York and New Jersey. He was a member of U.S. EPA Clean Air Act Advisory Committee from 1994 to 2003 as well as a member of US DOT/NHTSA Safety Research Advisory Committee from 1988 to 1994. In 2000, he received the Ford Motor Company's Heroes of the Planet Environmental Award.
